What is Visio Paper Figure Skill?

Visio Paper Figure Skill, registered as visio-image-rebuilder, reconstructs architecture diagrams, flowcharts, and scientific multi-panel figures from reference images or existing VSDX files. The goal is a native editable Visio master made of shapes, text, connectors, and meaningful groups, rather than a full-page reference image pasted into Visio.

The SKILL.md requires input inspection, a backup, an object inventory, panel calibration, and verification after reconstruction. PowerShell helpers support Visio COM drawing, package inspection, and exports from the saved VSDX master. SVG, PNG, PDF, and PPTX are delivery formats derived from that master.

Full reconstruction primarily requires Windows and Microsoft Visio. PPTX export additionally uses PowerPoint COM and inserts the Visio page exported as SVG; it does not rebuild every object as a native PowerPoint shape. For charts showing real experimental results, use the original data and a plotting script rather than estimating values from the reference image.

Core capabilities

Native editable Visio reconstruction

Rebuild reference layouts with editable shapes, labels, connectors, and groups instead of embedding a flattened full-page image.

Calibrated multi-panel layouts

Set global and panel-local bounds before drawing detailed submodules to reduce drift and overlap.

Existing-diagram style changes

Inspect shape identifiers and apply typography, palette, or line changes while preserving the intended structure.

Master-based exports and checks

Export requested formats from the saved VSDX and inspect media, shape counts, labels, file presence, and previews.

What you can use it for

  • Make an architecture figure editable

Provide a reference PNG or screenshot and request a native VSDX reconstruction with an exported preview.

  • Restyle an existing model diagram

Supply the current VSDX and reference palette or typography requirements, keeping the layout unless a change is requested.

  • Prepare consistent manuscript deliverables

Export SVG and PDF from the verified Visio master so the submission figures share one source.

How to get started

  1. 1

    Prepare the Windows toolchain

Install Microsoft Visio, PowerShell, and Git. Install Microsoft PowerPoint as well if PPTX export is needed.

  2. 2

    Install the Codex skill

Run the PowerShell clone command above and start a new Codex session so visio-image-rebuilder is discovered.

  3. 3

    Specify the reconstruction task

Supply the reference image or VSDX, desired output path and formats, and state that native editable Visio objects are required.

  4. 4

    Inspect the master and exports

Review the preview, confirm editable labels and connectors, and check that the final VSDX is not a full-page raster reference in disguise.

How it compares to similar skills

Choose this skill for a Windows/Visio workflow needing an editable scientific diagram master. It is not a general raster editor, a data-chart inference tool, or a native PowerPoint-object generator.
